The industrial revolution permitted Europeans more wealth and free time. With this  leisure time and money, they were drawn to the arts, entertainment and cultural events. The vintage advertising posters informed the public of events such at dance halls (Moulin Rouge, Follies-Bergere, Olympia), circuses, and the theater (Sarah Bernhardt, Mistenguett). And later on, the poster announced musical events such as concerts, festivals and movies.
